Statement from President Ojakian on Proposed Tuition Increase
Today, President Mark E. Ojakian recommended a tuition increase to the Board of Regents for the four state universities, twelve community colleges and Charter Oak State College for the coming year.
Today, Connecticut State Colleges and Universities President Mark E. Ojakian recommended a tuition increase to the Board of Regents for the four state universities, twelve community colleges and Charter Oak State College for the coming year.
“I have said consistently that our budget will not be balanced on the backs of our students. If we relied on tuition to break even, an increase of more than 7% at our universities and almost 11% at our community colleges would be necessary. While this increase does not close our projected deficit, I believe it is fair given our current fiscal environment. It allows our schools to remain accessible and not burden students with crippling debt upon graduation.”
The proposed increases are:

The Board of Regents Finance Committee will meet on Monday, March 28 to discuss the recommended tuition increase. The Board of Regents will then vote on the proposal the following day at their Board meeting. President Ojakian has written an Open Letter to students to inform them of the increases.
