Lewis J. Robinson, Jr. Steps Down as Chairman of Board of Regents

Lewis J. Robinson, Jr., resigns as chairman of Board of Regents for Higher Education.

Lewis J. Robinson, Jr., resigned today as chairman of the Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR) — the governing board of the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities — effective immediately. “I have enjoyed getting to know Lew Robinson as an individual during the last few months and greatly appreciated his insight and wisdom in his role as chairman of the Board of Regents,” said Gregory W. Gray, BOR president. “Lew has certainly helped this system maintain its focus during the last 18 months to be positioned for a very bright future,” said Gray. “Personally, I am disappointed to lose his leadership, but I understand and respect his decision, and with all good organizations, we have a succession plan built into our system.” Yvette Meléndez, BOR vice chair, will assume the role of acting chair by presiding over board meetings and performing all the duties of the chair, until a new chair is appointed by Governor Dannel Malloy. Meléndez is vice president of Government and Community Alliances for Hartford Healthcare and Hartford Hospital. Robinson was appointed BOR chair of the Board of Regents by Governor Malloy in 2011, and under his leadership the board has accomplished several significant goals for the ConnSCU system. These include a policy for transfers and articulation, implementation of a developmental program for students needing remedial help, 47 new faculty positions, developing the system’s first strategic plan, and the appointment of a new BOR president.
