Founding President of Quinebaug Valley Community College Returns as Interim President
Dr. Robert E. Miller, the founding president of Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC), has been appointed interim QVCC president, following the departure of Dr. Ross Tomlin.
“It’s exciting to be returning to an institution that has had such a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of area residents,” said Miller. “Our graduates have gone on to distinguish themselves as skilled workers and as leaders in many professions, and I look forward to working with the faculty, students and staff once again.”
“Dr. Miller’s experience will be critical to ensuring this transition is smooth and orderly, preserving the quality of education that QVCC students have become accustomed to,” said Chairman of the Board of Regents for Higher Education Lewis J. Robinson. “Dr. Miller’s experience leading a campus both as a permanent president and interim president at several of our institutions will be invaluable. I thank him for his service and look forward to working with him.”
Miller was first appointed in 1971 to open QVCC —Connecticut’s 11th community college with a service area to include towns in Windham County. The initial enrollment was 200, which has expanded to more than 5,000 credit and non-credit students. In addition to the main campus in Danielson, the college operates a center in Willimantic. Miller retired in 1992, and was succeeded by Dianne Williams, who served until her retirement in 2010. Miller will serve until a permanent QVCC president is selected, which is expected to occur by the end of June.
