In June 2013 James Lombella was asked to serve as Interim President of Asnuntuck Community College. While continuing in this capacity, he has directed several critical projects during challenging economic times. These projects include guiding the college’s $8.3 million Master Plan design and vision as well as the current $2.6 million Advanced Manufacturing Welding Center expansion. Under James’ leadership Asnuntuck achieved the largest overall FTE increase of all 17 colleges and universities in the Connecticut state system for Fall 2013. Additionally, he has collaborated on fundraising efforts with the Executive Board of the Asnuntuck Community College Foundation by expanding the foundation membership and building strategic partnerships with key private sector organizations and employers.

James began his administrative career at Asnuntuck in 2009 in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC) as an Adjunct Credit Instructor while assisting to lead the development of the guidelines for the S.M.A.R.T. (Skills for Manufacturing and Related Technologies) grant for the State of Connecticut. In conjunction to these two roles he also supported Asnuntuck’s AMTC achievement of up to a 90% placement rate with major employers in the area of Advanced Manufacturing.

From 2010 through 2012 James was the Director then Associate Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, where he supervised the operations of Workforce Development, Continuing Education, Business and Industry and the Marketing divisions of the college. During this time the performance of the Continuing Education Division achieved 32% growth in enrollments and the Business and Industry Division revenues doubled.

In 2012 James became the CFO/Dean of Administration, which he has maintained as a dual role since being named the Interim President in June of 2013. During this time he has directed a transparent budgeting approach across all divisions within the college and has promoted fiscal awareness and accountability at all levels. Additionally, he led efforts to redevelop Asnuntuck’s website which has won 2 international design awards.

Prior to his achievements in higher education, James worked in the private sector in senior leadership roles directing operations for Pepperidge Farm’s flagship plant and Plastipak Packaging. During his tenure at Plastipak Packaging his achievements also included ISO 9001 Certification for international quality accreditation. In both organizations he implemented and used key performance indicators to evaluate performance metrics across multi-million dollar operating budgets.

In addition, James spent nearly a decade as a small business owner and entrepreneur. He holds his Master of Management degree from Cambridge College and is currently a Doctoral Student with Nova Southeastern University.
