President Gregory Gray of the Board of Regents for Higher Education announced today that Dr. Paul Broadie II was selected the next President of Housatonic Community College effective April 3, 2015. The selection was made after consideration of more than 44 applicants for the position. Dr. Broadie will succeed Dr. Elizabeth Roop, who has been serving as Housatonic’s Interim President since June of 2014.

Dr. Broadie is currently Vice President for Student Services at State University of New York (SUNY) Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York.  He has been with SUNY Orange County Community College since 2005.

“I am very pleased that Dr. Broadie has emerged as the successful candidate for President of Housatonic Community College,” said President Gray following his selection. “Dr. Broadie brings exceptional scholarship and experience to this position, and is strongly committed to the enhancement of student engagement, learning and development.”

Dr. Broadie’s selection was in large part based on the vision he conveyed for the college and community during his interview process. With a collaborative and participatory leadership style, he has a successful record of creating high quality educational programs and services for students of diverse backgrounds. Dr. Broadie also has a strong background in enrollment management, retention and completion.

“My keen passion for the enhancement of student engagement and learning — as well as my experience in expanding access to high quality educational programs — has drawn me to Housatonic Community College,” said Dr. Broadie. “I welcome this exceptional opportunity to shape the academic growth and development of students as the college builds on its strong past and moves into an exciting future.”

Dr. Broadie has 24 years of progressively responsible higher education experience. Before assuming his current position of Vice President for Student Services at SUNY Orange County Community College in August, 2005, Dr. Broadie, served as Associate Vice President of Extension Centers for Orange County, beginning in 2002.  He also served as Director of the Ossining Extension Center at Westchester Community College beginning in January, 2001, and has held a variety of positions at the State University of New York at New Paltz from 1997 through 2001.

As a member of Academic Affairs, Dr. Broadie worked closely with faculty and department chairs to enhance and cultivate teaching and learning while strengthening the institution’s focus on the academic mission. He served as co-chair of a team developing the college’s academic mission statement, and also served on the team responsible for the development of the college’s first academic master plan. While at Orange County he was also involved in developing successful partnerships with area K-12 schools.

Dr. Broadie received his Ph.D. from Colorado State University, a master in business administration degree from Long Island University, and a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Mercy College, where he graduated summa cum laude.
