CT to Offer Opportunity to Learn About Ways to Pay for College

This January, students and parents can receive advice in learning about financial aid and planning for college during an annual statewide event, College Goal Sunday.

This January, students and their parents can receive one-on-one expert advice in learning about financial aid and planning for college at 12 locations around the state during an annual statewide event, College Goal Sunday.

On January 29, 2012, students and their families can attend College Goal Sunday and talk with financial aid counselors and college staff in person from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at various locations throughout the State. Among the participating locations across the state are seven of the colleges and universities under the authority of the Board of Regents for Higher Education (see accompanying list).

In a single afternoon, students and their families can become familiar with college entrance requirements, learn about planning for college, and obtain on-site assistance in filling out financial aid applications. In addition, valuable information will be shared about the benefits of attending college, student support services, areas of study and degree programs. Spanish interpreters will be available.

Those interested in this service should go to www.collegegoalsundayct.org for a list of all locations, and to learn what to bring to the event.

For students who are the first ones to attend college, the process of applying for college can seem complicated, especially finding financial resources and applying for aid to make the dream of attending college a reality. Participating in College Goal Sunday gives students and their families a great first step on the pathway to college. It gives the students and families an opportunity to learn about preparing for college and financial aid in a comfortable setting.

College Goal Sunday is a valuable opportunity to get tips on planning for college and personal advice on ways to make attending college more affordable. Students and parents are encouraged to take advantage of this event. Among the locations are the following Board of Regents institutions: Eastern Connecticut State University, Western Connecticut State University, Manchester Community College, Gateway Community College, Middlesex Community College, Naugatuck Valley Community College and Norwalk Community College.

College Goal Sunday is funded and sponsored by Lumina Foundation for Education, the CT Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators (CAPFAA), the CT Association of Educational Opportunity Programs (CAEOP), and the YMCAs of Connecticut.

For more information about the event, in addition to visiting the website, individuals may call 1-888- 277-2270 or email to info@collegegoalsundayct.org.
