CSCU Institutions Gain Access to Scopus Database
Scopus is a multidisciplinary abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and web sources with tools to track, analyze, and visualize research.
All of the universities and community colleges in the CSCU System now have online access to Scopus, a library database produced by Elsevier.

Access to Scopus is the result of a unanimous decision within the libraries of the four Connecticut state universities. This database was trialed in April by the three universities who did not previously have access: Eastern, Southern, and Western (Central already has a Scopus subscription). During the trial, students, faculty, and staff were invited to provide feedback.
Following the conclusion of the trial, the library directors of the four state universities assessed that Scopus would effectively meet the learning and research needs of their communities. They recommended that the System Office-provided funding that has previously been used to pay for a subscription to the Social Science Citation Index (a library database on the Web of Science platform) should be redirected to pay for a subscription to Scopus.
The task force who assessed Scopus was led by Veronica Kenausis (Western’s Associate Dean for Library Services & Academic Success Programs) and included librarians from all four state universities along with the System Office. According to Kenausis, “the task force concluded that Scopus is a high quality database with content and tools that match and exceed the Social Science Citation Index”. In addition to assessing Scopus, the task force was able to negotiate with the vendor so that access to Scopus was extended to all of Connecticut’s community colleges without any additional subscription cost.
