Connecticut Community College Students Honored at the State Capitol
Community College Students Honored at the 2012 All-Connecticut Academic Team Awards Ceremony
"The ten community college students were selected from among the 57,000 students enroll this year in the Connecticut Community Colleges." said Professor Sharon Gusky, program coordinator at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. "Four of the students on the team have a perfect 4.0 GPA and most are Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members. These students truly represent the best of the best."
All eleven students also represented Connecticut in the All-USA Academic Team and New Century Scholars Competitions where they competed against 1,720 students from more than 860 community colleges across the country. One Connecticut student, Carlos Julca, from Norwalk Community College, was honored as a New Century Scholar and awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Coca Cola Foundation.
“The students selected for this achievement represent the best our community and junior colleges have to offer,” said Robert A. Kennedy, president of the Board of Regents for Higher Education, which governs the 12 community colleges in Connecticut. “They were selected based not only on their academic accomplishments, but because of their leadership characteristics and experience which will serve them well in the future. I’m proud that these students chose to attend a Connecticut Community College, and I wish them the best in the future.”
