BOR Sets 2022-23 Tuition Rates for State Universities and Charter Oak State College
State universities are proposing an increase of $24 per credit or $291 per semester for full-time undergraduate students for tuition and mandatory fees beginning in the fall of 2022
The Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR) today voted to set tuition and fee rates at the state universities and Charter Oak State College for the 2022-23 academic year. As part of the new structure, state universities are proposing an increase of $24 per credit or $291 per semester for full-time undergraduate students for tuition and mandatory fees beginning in the fall of 2022. Tuition will remain flat at Charter Oak for the third consecutive year, and the college’s graduation fee has been eliminated.
“No one ever wants to raise tuition, but today’s action balances the need to maintain affordability at our state universities with the significant fiscal challenges we face,” President Cheng said. “Our public colleges and universities remain the most affordable, most accessible, highest quality option for Connecticut students.”
As CSCU presented to the Connecticut General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee in February, the system projects a more than $250 million budget shortfall between FY22 and FY23 largely driven by expected changes to SEBAC payroll and fringe benefit agreements, the state’s decennial 27th payroll, and COVID-19’s negative impact on enrollment.
In total, today’s tuition adjustments are expected to raise an additional $15 million.
