BOR Passes Policy Welcoming Refugees
CSCU will form a working group with a goal of establishing formal partnerships with the Department of Social Services and the state’s refugee resettlement agencies to improve access and supports available at the state’s public colleges and universities.
The Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR) today passed a resolution that will provide additional supports to refugees and asylum seekers seeking education at the 17 Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) institutions. Under the policy, CSCU will form a working group with representatives from each college and university, with a goal of establishing formal partnerships with the Department of Social Services and the state’s refugee resettlement agencies to improve access and supports available at the state’s public colleges and universities.
“CSCU is proud to be a leader in access and opportunity,” CSCU President Terrence Cheng said. “With refugee crises in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Yemen, and around the world, we are prepared to work closely with our state partners and resettlement agencies to make it easier for those fleeing atrocities to access higher education. I appreciate the BOR’s Faculty Advisory Committee for playing a key leadership role in the creation of this policy.”
