Board Approves Interim President Austin’s Contract

Chairman Lewis J. Robinson announced the Board has approved the terms of Interim President Philip E. Austin’s employment contract.

Board of Regents for Higher Education Chairman Lewis J. Robinson today announced that the Board has approved the terms of Interim President Philip E. Austin’s employment contract, at a salary level of $340,000 per year.

“I’m pleased that President Austin and the Board of Regents could come to a mutual agreement regarding his contract. While discussing this matter, both Dr. Austin and I agreed that, given the temporary nature of this appointment, a base salary was an appropriate way in which to compensate him for his work,” said Robinson. “Dr. Austin has been speaking with Regents, staff at the central office, presidents and other stakeholders since he was appointed, and I know he believes, as I do, that the events of the past few weeks ought to be reviewed, the proper action should be taken to ensure these issues don’t arise again, and then we need to move forward to ensure that no one loses sight of the most important work we do here – furthering the success of and support for the students across our 17 institutions.”

“I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Regents, the presidents, faculty, students and staff at the institutions on the important change agenda that needs to be implemented,” said Austin. “I am impressed with the caliber of the people involved with our institutions and the central office, and I know they will contribute to moving the system forward.”
